Saint Titus Brandsma is one of the newest saints to our Church, but his story is rich in history. The Catholic friar traveled around the world as a professor of theology during the 1930s. During a trip to Ontario in he wrote:
“I not only see the riches of the nature of the water, its immeasurable potentiality; I see God working in the work of his hands and the manifestation of his love.”
After the Nazi invasion of the Netherlands, he began speaking out against their ideology, eventually gaining their interest. Saint Titus was arrested and imprisoned in 1942 by Nazi’s in the Netherlands, and was eventually transferred to a concentration camp in Germany where he was killed by lethal injection.
Saint Titus is regarded as a martyr for the church and was canonized by Pope Francis on May 15, 2022 along with 9 others.
