“Al piedi del monte”- “at the base of the mountain”- on a popular prayer card Frassati is gazing toward the heavens, climbing a mountain. On the photograph, Pier Giorgio Frassati later wrote, “Verso l’alto,” which translates as “to the heights”.
This became Blessed Pier Giorgio’s motto, and was as much about a look toward Heaven as it was a testament to a life of prayer and sense of social responsibility.
